Well, it looks like the quilting legacy passed from my grandmother won't stop with me! This little gal of mine has been bitten by the bug and is good at it too!!!
Her first ever try at machine quilting!!
This is her 3rd project. First, she made a pillowcase taught by my quilting teacher! Second she made a little tote bag. This time she decided she wanted a decorative pillow for her room. So, off and on for a month or two, together, we've put together the log cabin blocks. She chose the colors, and help me cut some, but sewed all but about three of the seams herself!!
Once those were done, She decided how she wanted them laid out, we pinned them together then she sewed them together all by herself! Then, I cut out the batting for her and secured it to the top with spray adhesive made for fabric. I also put a muslin lining on the back side to protect the batting and make it go through the machine more smoothly--hence making the quilting it a little easier for her. Even with a walking foot, my machine feed dogs aren't to keen on sending batting through without, well, eating it.
The muslin lining
Once that was done, under her careful guidance of course, I marked the top with lines where she'd be sewing, then away she went!! Now, voila! She has a quilted top!! It's not quite finished yet, but very close! Just three smaller diamond shapes inside the larger ones. She did a fantastic job! For a First try, i'd say her lines are pretty darn straight! I am one proud quilting momma!!!
The mostly quilted top!!!
Pictures of the completed project to come!!!
Happy quilting,
