AYOLF- March Goal

Hi again!  For my march goal, I'm going to pick up where I left off in February doing the piecework for my Amish style Pyramids quilt.  Here's where I left off:
By the end of March, my goal is to get the rest of the 5in squares (for those fabrics which I didn't already cut into triangles) and/or triangles cut (darn it! why couldn't I have learned the sew squares together then cut trick b4 I cut all those triangles out!), pair them up and continue getting them sewn together.  If time allows, I'd also love to start laying out the design, but my realistic side says save that for the April goal!

Happy Sewing!!

Denise

AYOLF: February Finish

It's been a crazy busy month. Traveling here there and everywhere for my youngest daughter's gymnastics meets, a birthday celebration for the oldest, the death of my FIL and subsequent travel to FL for memorial services, not to mention the daily get the kids to school schedule.

Despite all the craziness, I did manage to find time to unwind and work on my goal of cutting the half square triangles for my Pyramids quilt.

Though I didn't get them all cut I made a ton of progress! Picked out a few more reproduction fabrics and even started sewing some of the triangles together!! I probably would've managed to get them all done had I learned the valuable time saving tip to just mark, sew the 2 5" squares together, then cut them apart prior to spending time slicing them all in half square triangles! Oh well! I know for next time! For now, I'm proud of my accomplishments!

Looking forward to continuing to work on this during march!

Denise ;)

AYOLF- First Goal

I'm joining the game a bit late, but, in an effort to consistently work on some quilting projects I've been wanting to start and/or finish, I'm participating in "A year of Lovely Finishes" hosted by Shanna of Fiber of All Sorts and Melissa of Sew BitterSweet Designs.  For this little activity, I make and commit to a goal for something I want to finish by the end of the month, then do it!

Right now I'm really into Amish style quilts.  I admire their simple beauty that stands the test of time.  I recently bought this book which has lots of great examples of these quilts.  On my bucket list is to make one of each of the styles featured in this book.

My next project is a quilt for the living room couch.  Here's the pattern I chose:

I plan to use civil war reproduction fabrics  for this. I picked up a couple charm packs from the shop where I take classes--- (School House Quilts) and ordered a large fat quarter pack of some other repro fabrics on Etsy!

             Repro fabrics from the shop

So here's my 1st goal: start cutting the half square triangles for this project.  At a minimum id like to get all the precut squares cut into triangles! If time allows, I'd also like to start sewing some together.

C ya soon.
